CROWN research institute Scion has won a four-year grant to investigate the benefits of industrial symbiosis related to wood processing and the energy sectors.
Economic development officer Su Cammell told Kawerau District Council about the grant at a regulatory and services committee meeting on Tuesday.
She said the research would explore how the symbiotic effect could extend to unrelated industry segments and different locations.
The research would highlight future opportunities, she said.
