Station wants to broadcast to Kawerau shoppers

19 December 2014

KAWERAU’S Galaxy Radio station has appealed to Kawerau District Council for an opportunity to broadcast around Jellicoe Court.

Galaxy breakfast host and chief executive Grant Reid spoke at the council’s regulatory and services committee meeting on Tuesday.

He said Galaxy had become part of the Kawerau community since it launched in June and invited councillors to visit the radio’s office.

He asked to use the council’s network of speakers around the Jellicoe Court’s central paved area, which played classical music now.

Mayor Malcolm Campbell said the station had the right people with the right attitudes and he asked council staff to look into the request and come up with a recommendation within a matter of days or weeks, not months.

The council agreed with the suggestion in principle and staff began investigating the request this week.
