TARAWERA High School students have been rocking the new climbing wall completed at the end of last month.

Installed in the school gym, the first student to climb the wall was year 9 student Steve Robin followed by his friend Floyd Mokai-Sharp.

Outdoor education teacher Sophie Hoskins said the new wall was a huge asset to the school and the outdoor education programme.

“As well as opening up a whole new sport for Kawerau students and the chance to build confidence and leadership skills, it gives senior students a chance to train prior to their rock-climbing trip in term 2.

“The wall will soon be open for the community and whanau to come and have a go,” she said.
