Kawerau Youth Council sworn in today

20 March 2015

THE 12 members of Kawerau’s youth council will be sworn in at a ceremony in the town’s Concert Chambers at 4.30pm today.

Kawerau District Council learnt about the youth council selections during a regulatory and services committee meeting on Tuesday.

Regulatory and planning manager Chris Jensen said 17 applications were received and the group ranged in age from 13 to 23.

Each applicant was interviewed by a panel comprising youth projects officer JJ Rika, events and community activities team leader Lee Barton, and councillors Warwick Godfery and Berice Julian.

Mr Rika said 12 were selected, with an even split between boys and girls.

Mr Godfery said the interviews were a refreshing experience and he enjoyed meeting a selection of the town’s positive young people.
