AUCKLAND University’s first white-water championship event could be paddling the Tarawera River later this year.
On Tuesday Kawerau District Council chief executive Russell George told the council’s regulatory and services committee about a university expression of interest in holding the event at Kawerau.
He said the event’s focus was “having fun”.
The October 3-4 event would include head-to-head races using rafts and kayaks, with slalom events open to general paddlers, Mr George said.
