Kawerau calendar takes shape

KAWERAU’S annual Christmas in the Park celebration has been confirmed for December 12 this year.
The date was one of a number that featured in a calendar of events considered by Kawerau District Council’s regulatory and services committee meeting on May 12.
Regulatory and planning manager Chris Jensen said the council received four expressions of interest for the position of show director to manage the Christmas in the Park evening show.
These applications were being analysed and a decision was expected this month.
He said the event’s main issue continued to be security, with a large number of people attending the event from outside Kawerau.
The Whakatane Bird Show and Sale was confirmed for May 30 and 31 in the Kawerau Town Hall and Concert Chambers.
The Gravity Sports Six hour Adventure Race was confirmed for June 6 and race organisers had begun collecting entries.
Mr Jensen said planning had begun for the Woodfest and Woodskills events between September 25 and 27, followed by King of the Mountain race on October 31.
