From Next Top Model to the Paris catwalk

5 March 2014

Remember that freckly, outspoken girl who won the title of New Zealand’s Next Top Model back in 2010? Well even if not, it’s time to sit up and take notice. 23-year-old Danielle Hayes has landed something of a dream job for a budding runway model, walking in Jean Paul Gaultier’s show during Paris Fashion Week earlier this week. While she wasn’t exactly a runway natural during her time on Next Top Model, the Kawerau-born beauty sure looked in her element while striding down the runway. “My word to explain the events of today. Discombobulated,” she said about the show on Twitter. Walking for one of the world’s biggest designers is certainly a coup, but after being named one of the “next generation of catwalk stars” last year by none other than Style.com, it seems Danielle had already made a huge impression on those in the know. Before her Paris stint, the Kiwi model found success in South Africa, walking in Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Africa as well as posing for various editorials for Elle South Africa. In 2013 she made her mark in the Big Apple by walking for a couple of up-and-coming designers during New York Fashion Week and appearing in a beauty spread in local fash bible, The New York Times Style Magazine. Oh, and she also shot for a little publication known as Vogue Italia – not bad for someone who gave modelling a try based on a dare. Anyone else noticing the similarities between our newest runway sensation and too-cool-for-school uber model Cara Delevingne?

After all, the fashion world loves nothing more than a runway diva with a bit of an edge.
