24 October 2017
Kawerau SPCA fundraiser
- When: Saturday, October 28 at 10am
- Where: Kawerau Presbyterian Church – 50 OnslowStreet, Kawerau
- Cost: $25 (no door sales)
KAWERAU’S SPCA will host its first fashion show fundraiser and morning tea this weekend, with funds going toward running the centre.
Selected clothing from the Kawerau SPCA Op Shop will be modelled by volunteers, customers and friends and family, and will be available for purchase.
Kawerau SPCA volunteer Carey Conn said all the models would be modelling for the first time.
“On the day, people can expect a very nice morning tea with unlimited tea and coffee.
“[Kawerau] Knives and Forks Cafe and Catering are donating the scones and cupcakes. We love the fact that this cafe uses free range eggs which fits well with SPCA philosophy.
“We envisage there will be quite a relaxed, friendly atmosphere with lots of chatting ladies and quite a few laughs.”
Ms Conn said the funds raised would go toward running the centre.
“The kitten season has started so extra funds would be welcomed to help take care of the influx and pay for vet bills.
“Our centre receives no government funding so it’s dependant on donations, fundraising and sponsorship.”
Kawerau SPCA has held two welfare promotions this year, one for dogs and the other for cats, to get animals in Kawerau de-sexed.
“The idea for the parade came about when I mentioned to manager Jenny Asquith that I’d been collecting pretty teapots, cups and tiered plates from op shops and was thinking about having a high tea type event for the SPCA, but needed some entertainment to go with it.
“[Ms Asquith] suggested we have a fashion parade, showcasing some of the shop’s lovely pre-loved clothing.”
Because of catering purposes, there would not be door sales on the day.
Tickets can be purchased from the Kawerau SPCA Op Shop and animal centre.
