ENTHUSIASTIC stallholders at Kawerau’s first car boot sale on Saturday, February 21, plan to turn the one-off sale into a regular event.

The car boot sale was organised through the Neighbourhoods of Healthy Homes project as a fundraiser for an alleyway mural.

Community co-ordinator Hannah Edwardson said Saturday’s sale attracted 100 to 200 people and 12 stall holders, which was a good turnout.

She said a group of stall holders was keen to start a committee to make the sale at Bowen Park a regular and larger event.

Healthy Homes supported community led events that would be taken on and sustained by residents when the project ended.

The mural design in the alleyway between Onslow and Fitzgerald streets was expected to be drawn up by the end of March in paint-by-numbers fashion.

It was expected to take one to two weeks to complete and the opening would be marked with a neighbourhood-wide barbecue.
