KAWERAU’S Mata beer brought home 10 medals from the Brewer Guild Awards this month.
Brewer Tammy Viitakangas said the company’s Wai-iti Waka pale ale and BOP lager brought home gold medals, just in time for the company’s 10th anniversary this year.
She said the Tumeke international pale ale, Volcano red pale ale and Kapai Autumn session ale collected silver medals.
Bronze medals were awarded to Mata’s Matawhaka imperial international pale ale, Hip-hop pilsner, Blondie Belgian wheat beer, Manuka golden ale and its mango-infused white international pale ale.
The mango-infused style was a collaboration with a Hawke’s Bay brewery, Fat Monk.
This year marks the guild’s ninth year of awards.
The awards were presented during a dinner at Auckland’s SkyCity by news presenter Hilary Barry on September 19.
Ms Viitakangas said she was pleased to collect 10 medals as 858 entries were received this year, up from 670 in 2014.
